Hesitate joins Grimson stable in Tab Eureka shake-up

Last year's TAB Eureka third placegetter Hesitate has made a significant stable switch, joining leading trainer Jason Grimson ahead of a potential second crack at the world's richest pacing race on November 21.

In another intriguing twist in the build-up to the $1.5 million TAB Eureka, Hesitate has moved from the stable of Luke McCarthy to Grimson's powerful Menangle operation.

McCarthy trained and drove Hesitate to third place behind Bay Of Biscay in last year's TAB Eureka, proving the talented pacer could match it with some of Australia's best.

Now, with another shot at the prestigious race potentially on the cards, connections have turned to Grimson, the trainer behind stars including Swayzee and Captains Mistress.

Grimson has established an outstanding reputation for preparing elite pacers for Australia's biggest races, making the move an interesting development as the countdown to this year's TAB Eureka continues.

Hesitate is owned by prominent businessman Mick Harvey, a major player in the race through his Go Racing and Harnesslink businesses, which hold two coveted TAB Eureka slots.

That connection adds another layer of intrigue to Hesitate's potential return, with Harvey already heavily invested in the world's richest pacing race.

Having finished third in 2025, Hesitate has already demonstrated his ability to compete on the big stage. The question now is whether a change of stable can help him go even better in 2026.

With the TAB Eureka set for Saturday, November 21 at Tabcorp Park Menangle, Hesitate's progress under Grimson will be closely watched as the final pieces of the Eureka puzzle fall into place.

Could the switch to Grimson be the key to turning last year's third placing into TAB Eureka glory?
