Hewitt’s Dynamic Duo Deliver

“What more can they do?”

It’s a fair call from veteran Bathurst trainer Bernie Hewitt after his two TAB Eureka hopefuls Royal Cruiser and Our Goat blasted to sparkling wins at Albion Park last Saturday.

Both smashed the clock, most notably Royal Cruiser, who posted a 1min51.9sec mile rate in the 2138m free-for-all, just 0.9sec outside Leap To Fame’s track record.

Now Hewitt is waiting for the phone to ring from a couple of what looks like five TAB Eureka slot owners still weighing up their options.

“I think both have put their hands up and have the qualities to go a long way if they get in (to the TAB Eureka),” he said.

“I haven’t had any inquiries yet, but you’d think that will change now.”

Hewitt is thrilled to have Royal Cruiser back and firing after a Menangle mishap when he galloped out from the pole on June 7 and subsequently lost form and confidence.

“It was great to see him just run along like that in front and still finish off so strong. He’s right back where we want him,” he said.

“We’ve always had a good opinion of him and he’s showing why.”

Our Goat posted his fifth and best win in a busy 19-race season when he led throughout in a  career best 1min50.2sec mile rate for 1660m at Albion Park last Saturday.

Hewitt has decided to run both pacers again at Albion Park on Saturday night.

“We weren't sure whether to bring them back home to race at Menangle, but we've decided to run them both in the free-for-all (at Albion Park) this weekend,” he said.

Our Goat has drawn gate two, while Royal Cruiser is the lone back row runner (gate eight) in a race where dual Inter Dominion heat winner Sure Thing Captain looks the hardest to beat.
