The most decisive TAB Eureka weekend of racing.

The two top seeds for the world’s richest harness race – Bay Of Biscay and Fighter Command – strut their stuff 1600 kilometres apart.

Bay Of Biscay, who already has Rob Watson’s Soho Standardbreds slot in the TAB Eureka, will face a star-studded free-for-all field, including three recent Brisbane Inter Dominion finalists, at Menangle on Saturday night.

It is a smart move for trainers Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin to make the trip to Sydney where Bay Of Biscay will get a serious test at the same track and distance (2300m) as the TAB Eureka.

As he did last year, Fighter Command heads down to Hobart to chase a golden ticket into the TAB Eureka by winning Saturday night’s $80,000 Beautide.

The winner gets the Tasracing slot in the TAB Eureka.

Fighter Command will be a dominant favourite to win and book his chance for redemption at Menangle on September 6.

It’s well documented he won last year’s Beautide, but was struck down by a twisted bowel, left fighting for his life and scratched from the TAB Eureka.

But this weekend runs even deeper than just the two top seeds.

War Dan Buddy, front-runner to snare the TAB Eureka slot held by his owners Danny and Jo Zavitsanos, gets a chance to impress from gate six in the opening race at Menangle on Saturday night.

Along with Bay Of Biscay and War Dan Buddy, Stewart and Tonkin have also taken the lightly raced but exciting Go Miki to Menangle, too. He’s drawn to win from gate four in race seven.

Stewart and Tonkin also have two of their other TAB Eureka contenders, Miki To Success and Some American, racing at Melton on Saturday night.

Miki To Success faces a strong field, but has gate two in the opening race, while Some American will have to overcome a wide gate (seven) to win race six.

It’s fair to say the TAB Eureka Power Rankings could look very different early next week.
